A Louis XVI-style ormolu-mounted mahogany commode a vantaux
After the model by Guillaume Benneman, Circa 1880
The marble top above three frieze drawers centred by a lion-mask, above a pair of panelled doors centred by a ribbon-tied roundel cast in high relief with a satyr and putto, with scrolling acanthus flanking to each side, the interior with six drawers, the sides also with central roundel depicting Bacchic revelry, the angles with fluted columnar uprights with acanthus capitals, on tapering frond-cast legs and fir-cone feet

The design of the present commode closely relates to that of a pair adapted by Benneman from a model by Joseph Stckel and supplied to Marie-Antoinette in 1786 for the Salon des Jeux at Fontainebleau.
