This marble was formerly in the collection of the celebrated architect, Stanford White, at his Saratoga Springs home. White was fatally wounded after being shot in the 'Girl in the Golden Swing' incident by Harry Thaw, husband of his mistress, Evelyn Nesbitt. The sculpture was acquired from White's estate by a Manhattan antiques dealer and subsequently purchased, circa 1960, by the father of the present owner, Max Habrecht, a well-known Detroit photographer.
