Lot Essay

Gerardine wa, like her brother Julius Jacobus (see lots 12-5 in this sale), trained by her father, the landscape artist Hendrikus van de Sande Bakhuyzen (see lots 8-9 in this sale). She concentrated on still lives, developing to a highly successful artist, whose work is in demand to this day.
