Lot Essay

Through the mediation of the Dunlop family in The Hague, Hoynck van Papendrecht did two watercolours for illustrations in Marjorie Bowen's Affairs of Men, published in 1921. Historic scenes by Hoynick are particularly rare. Namur was taken by the French in 1692 and reconquered by the troups of King-Stadtholder Willem III of Orange in 1695.
