Lot Essay

Teerlink was born in Dordrecht, where he became a member of Pictura in 1805. In 1807 he left for Paris to study with David. In 1808 he settled in Rome, never to return to Holland. The present drawing is an early work, still much influenced by the work of Abraham and Jacob van Strij
