Lot Essay

We are grateful to Mr. Alistair Laing for pointing out that the present composition corresponds exactly, but for minor variations in the two figures to that of a similar sized sepia drawing given to Florence Court in 1986 by Prof. Frank Mitchell of Townley Hall, Drogheda. The drawing presented by Prof. Mitchell was signed Del Drago. A more elaborate watercolour of similar size but with several more figures, inscribed 'Antonio del Drago 1790' was sold by Christie's, New York, 15th January 1992, lot 61.
