'Signing of the Treaty of Nanking', engraved plate, unsigned
depicting the signing on 29th August 1842 on board HMS Cornwallis before Nanking. By this treaty, Hong Kong was ceded to England and the five ports of Canton, Amoy, Foochow-Foo, Ningpo and Shanghai were opened to English traders and were to receive English consuls -- 11in. x 31in. (30cms x 80cms), framed and glazed.
