A Flemish ebony and tortoiseshell-veneered cabinet-on-stand, late 17th century, incorporating ten school of Antwerp painted copper panels, circa 1640
Applied with giltmetal mounts and decorated with ripple mouldings, the rectangular moulded hinged top enclosing a rosewood crossbanded shallow compartment above an arrangement of ten drawers and an architectural cupboard door with painted copper panels from the circle of Hans Jordaens III depicting (from top left to bottom left): Saint Giles and the stag; Cephalus and Procis; Jupiter disguised as Diana with Calisto; The Rape of Europa; (centre and bottom centre): Orpheus charming the animals; The fan of Icarus; (from top right to bottome right); Narcissus; Diana and Acteon (?); Apollo and the Cumaean Sibyl; and A sea monster approaching a Neroid, uprights opening to reveal a mirrored trompe l'oile interior, inlaid with ivory and fitted with a drawer, with a long drawer and slide below, the later stand with shaped apron, on cabriole legs with pad feet
