BROOKES, Richard. The Art of Angling. New improved with additions and formed into a dictionary, London: T. Lowndes, 1766. 12, engraved frontispiece, woodcuts throughout (lower margins of the earlier part lightly dampstained, occasional spotting), contemporary calf (joints cracked, extremities worn). Provenance: John Robinson (signature on title). First published in 1740 as The Art of Angling, Rock and Sea Fishing, this work though very derivative had great popular appeal and remained a best seller until the early 19th-century. This is the first edition under this title (though in effect the third edition), and is "said to have been edited by Moses Browne." W. & S. p. 42; Petit 281. (2)
