[SHIRLEY, Thomas.] The Angler's Museum; or, The whole art of float and fly fishing, London: for John Fielding, [1784?]. 12, engraved frontispiece portrait, woodcut title vignette, contemporary calf with panelled spine (upper cover becoming detached). "Second edition" of a scarce work, in fact a re-issue of the first with new title page, new preface and the "Sermon of St. Anthony" prefixed. The frontispiece, which is dated 1784, portrays "Mr. John Kirby, the celebrated angler," keeper of Newgate, who died in 1804. W. & S. p. 194; Petit 1942.

Lowndes, 1766. 12, engraved frontispiece, woodcuts throughout (lower margins of the earlier part lightly dampstained, occasional spotting), contemporary calf (joints cracked, extremities worn). Provenance: John Robinson (signature on title). First published in 1740 as The Art of Angling, Rock and Sea Fishing, this work though very derivative had great popular appeal and remained a best seller until the early 19th-century. This is the first edition under this title (though in effect the third edition), and is "said to have been edited by Moses Browne." W. & S. p. 42; Petit 281. (2)
