Lot Essay

Wagner lists the present picture as a variant of that in Hofstede. He connects the Hofstede picture with no. 47 in his catalogue raisonn. However, the view listed by Hofstede, from the Schneider and Goldschmidt collections, was on panel, whereas Wagner describes his no. 47 as being painted on silver (or silvered copper).
