Edinburgh, circa 1740; maker's mark HP, probably for Hugh Penman
Each on shaped circular fluted base, rising to a faceted knopped stem, with spool-form socket, one side of base engraved with a crest under a motto, marked on bases

The crest and motto are those of Coutts, for the family of Thomas Coutts (1735-1822), a renowned and influential banker.
