Lot Essay

In 1980 John Weiss curated and edited the catalogue for the exhibition Venus, Jupiter & Mars: The Photographs of Frederick Sommer at the Delaware Art Museum. Conceived by Mr. Weiss, a professor at the University of Delaware, the exhibition included over one hundred photographs dating from the late 1930s-1970s. This print was given by Sommer to Mr. Weiss as a gesture of appreciation for his efforts.
