The later rectangular plate within a guilloche carved border, surmounted by acanthus-sheathed scrolls, centering a vase on a platform held aloft by a laurel leaf cluster, each volute corner set with a flower, from which depends a garland, the bottom centered with similar garlands, on outcurved reeded bracket feet

Lot Essay

The present mirror shares its guilloche-carved border and outcurved reeded bracket feet with two other North Italian mirrors of almost exactly the same design illustrated in Child, World Mirrors 1650-1900, London, 1990, figs. 627-28.
