An opaque blockbuster when young, astringent and unready up until the early 1980s. Still fairly deep-coloured; a vast, deep, high-toned, spicy nose; fairly sweet, full-bodied, packed with fruit, extract, tannin and acidity. Taylor backbone and '55 vintage flesh which, I trust, will outlive its spirit and tannin. M.B.
