A Meissen silver-gilt-mounted tankard
Circa 1735-37, blue crossed swords mark, mounts with Dresden mark and date letter probably an incuse M for 1737, maker's mark IG F within heart-shaped punch
Painted with a harbour scene with Orientals at discussion by barrels and sacks before buildings by a seashore with galleons in the distance, within a quatrefoil cartouche supported by scrolling pierced strapwork interwoven with trailing foliage against panels of Bttger-lustre and supporting vignettes with Orientals at various pursuits, flanked by scattered flowers and birds in flight in the Kakiemon palette, between gilt diaper pattern borders divided by oval puce camaeu vignettes within oval Bttger-lustre cartouches with gilt scrolling foliage, the upper rim richly gilt, the contemporary moulded shaped octagonal cover with a scrolling pierced thumbpiece (some minute wear to gilding of upper rim and upper border, star-crack to body adjacent to handle)
