Provenance:
Dick Merrill, the famed commercial aviator and husband to actress Toby Wing for 49 years, logged in more than forty-four thousand hours in the air. He was awarded the coveted Harmon Trophy for aviational excellence by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Aside from setting numerous world records, his additional accomplishments include flying the first airmail plane, serving twenty-nine years as a senior aviator for Eastern Airlines, and exercising his curatorial expertise for the Dick Merrill Aviation Museum in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Entrusted to escort numerous dignataries such as General and Mrs. Eisenhower, Dick still found time to spend flying with close friend Arthur Godfrey. Having never retired, Mr. Merrill died at 88, leaving behind a legacy of aviation supremacy.
