by Pierre-Denis Chaumont (fl. 1774-1793), marked, Paris 1785, with the second charge and discharge marks of Henry Clavel 1783-1789 and later French control marks
Slightly tapering rectangular tui--tablettes of flattened oblong section, both sides of cover and base inset with rectangular radiating sunburst panels of polished gold beams alternating with mother-of-pearl flutes, the cover sides centred with pierced motto SOUVENIR and D'AMITIE within scrolling foliage, the front side of the base inset with an oval enamel miniature painted with the Death of Lucretia, within a frosted gold band stamped with flowerheads alternating with leaves, the reverse with an identically framed plaited hair panel set with a pierced gold reserve stamped with trophies of Love, the gold mounts stamped with a laurel and berry border on a frosted band, inside a gold-capped pencil and three-leaved tablets
