La Princesse de Vaudmont-Lorraine, ne de Montmorency, was better known for her esprit than for her beauty. She first showed a positive attitude towards the French Revolution, but soon had to realize the upcoming danger and left France. She finally established herself in Altona near Hamburg and became the leader of the colony of French migrs. A miniature depicting her during the Ancien Rgime was sold in our Geneva rooms, 16 May 1995, lot 170.
