Lot Essay

The former owner of this beautiful miniature, Madame Levaigneur, had one of the most extraordinary collections of French portrait miniatures. Although a collector for most of her life, she inherited the main part of her collection from her godmother, Thodore Dablin whose sole heir she became in 1861.
