With nickel-finished lever movement, 26 jewels, the black matt dial with luminous baton and Arabic numerals, luminous Mercedes-style hands, sweep centre seconds, the tonneau-shaped water-resistant-type case with screw down crown and screw back, together with a stainless steel Rolex Oyster bracelet and clasp, case, dial and movement signed

Lot Essay

The Explorer model was patented in Geneva in 1953 and was designed for being used under extreme conditions. This watch is from the first series. For a watch from the second series, made with hacking seconds, see lot 90 in this sale.
