Lot Essay

Callow's final visit to Venice was in 1892. He is recorded as having painted three watercolours of the Canale del Olio in 1877, one is now in the City Museum and Art Gallery, Stoke-on-Trent. The watercolour can also be compared to a view of Canale della Posta, sold at Sotheby's London, 8 July 1982, lot 137.
