A FAMILLE ROSE ARMORIAL PLATE AND MATCHING SOUP PLATE

Each finely enamelled at the centre with a large accolle coat-of-arms, supporters, crown and ermine mantling, the foliate rim with a shaped gilt band with a trefoil at each of the compass points, plate with rim hairline
both about 9 in. (23 cm.) diam. (2)

Lot Essay

The arms have been thought to be those of Leopold II, Duke of Anhalt, but more recently the arms have been identified as those of Christian Auguste (1690-1747) and his wife, Johanna Elizabeth (1712-60), daughter of Duke Christian Auguste of Holstein-Gottorp.
