circa 1750-60
Enamelled with Juno in her charriot drawn by two peacocks amongst swirling clouds beside an oval cartouche enclosing a European couple and inscribed MARIA I E PETRUS III, the border with gilt initials between two narrow green enamel dart-pattern bands, two minor underside rim flakes restored
6 in. (15.7 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

This formed part of a tea-service ordered for the occasion of the marriage of King Pedro III and his neice Maria I in 1760. A teabowl and saucer is illustrated by J.A. Lloyd Hyde, R.R. Espirito Santo Silva and E. Malta, Chinese Porcelain for the European Market, 1956, pl.XX, p.73.
