Tripoli Grand Prix 1939 - A fine and unique trophy won by Hermann Lang driving the 11/2 litre supercharged type 165 Mercedes-Benz to win this event for the third time running; heavy African-silver in the form of a Romano Etruscan two handled urn; hand-beaten and with embossed relief and chased design of ornamental ivy-leaf frieze and raised fluted pattern surround to body; the wide rim in plain polished silver, engraved and inscribed "XII Gran Premio di Tripoli - Coppa del Maresciallo dell' Aria Italo Balbo Governatore Generale della Libia - 7 Maggio 1939 XVII". The trophy is further enhanced by its fitted carrying-case of fluted and scalloped design in two-tone tan leather, with matching woven leather tie-cord, embellished with a silver plated miniature of the trophy itself.
