Circa 1770, blue crossed swords and dot mark, dreher's mark of four triangular impressions forming a star, three black enamel dots to the footrim forming a triangle
Of oval form with up-turned shell-moulded integral handles, the center painted with a fable scene of a farmer talking to his cow, a sheep and recumbent goat at the right, the shaped border with bright green mosaik edged with gilt rocaille scrolls and pendant flowers in colour, gilt dentil rim

Lot Essay

The present tureen stand is likely from the same service as a series of variously shaped dishes from an anonymous collection, sold at Christie's, Geneva, 20 November 1970, lots 355, 356, 358 and again 14 November 1983, lots 138-140.
