Each with circular lappeted tops above a palm-wreathed and fluted shaft, the vase-shaped lower section with lion-masks hung from a lotus-leaf band above upspringing acanthus and downsplayed lotus-leaves with lappeted edge, above a concave-sided patera-centred panelled canted triangular spreading base, the tip of one base replaced, redecorated

Lot Essay

The gueridon stands or torcheres have antique Roman candelabrum pillars on altar-tripod plinths and relate in form to those supplied by Thomas Chippendale (d. 1779) for Brocket Hall, Hertfordshire and illustrated in James Paine, Noblemen and Gentlemen's Houses, 1783.
