The moulded rectangular top crossbanded in burr-yew, above two short drawers with spring locks to the undersides, and three graduated long drawers, on later bracket feet, the moulding to the top and the backboards later

Lot Essay

The later feet give the appearance that this chest should date from the 1760s, however it probably originally had thinner feet, appropriate for a George II chest. The earlier dating is also supported by the walnut drawer-linings. The different handles on the lower drawers follow the escutcheons and they appear to be the only set of handles on the chest, thus supporting the earlier date.
