Mei: Ippei Yasuyo, 18th Century
The blade hira zukuri, itame-masamehada with ji-nie, gunome midare hamon of nie with ashi and sunagashi, ubu nakago, 8in. (22.2cm.); in its black lacquer saya with a brown meander pattern, shibuichi fuchi-kashira with a priest and a torii in iroe takazogan, plain iron tsuba, gilt menuki formed as kikyo mon, a similar silver kanamono on the saya, shibuichi kurikata diving egrets in iroe takazogan, matching shibuichi wari-kogai and kozuka inlaid with dragonflies and flowers in iroe honzogan
