Frederick William Hallet Hodges was the youngest son of Thomas Law Hodges, of Hempsted Place, Kent, and his wife Rebecca Twisden, daughter of Sir Roger Twisden, 6th Bt., of Bradbourne, Kent. After the death of the last male heir to the Twisden baronetcy, in 1841, the Twisden estates were inherited by the Hodges family.
