A yew-wood and elm Windsor armchair, South Yorkshire/North Nottinghamshire, mid 19th century

The wood used in this chair was especially selected to include the use of burr-yew in the splat and arms. In other parts of the chair, including the bow, spindles, legs and stretchers, branchwood which shows the contrasting appearance of sapwood and heartwood has been used to create the most decorative effects
