Lot Essay

An oblong block of fir wood is notched at regular intervals all around. The result is a three-dimensional meander form. As in a real crankshaft, the rows of teeth are not axially placed, but linked in alternate pairs.
This piece is a formal exercise in the combination of theoretically identical units in a composition. For the viewer, the piece provides an exercise for the eye in recognizing, verifying and relating regular patterns.
