First Part only, large 2 (460 x 308mm.) Engraved allegorical titlepage and 42 (of 43, lacking the map of Aragon) double-page engraved maps including the world-map and the continents, all in contemporary colouring. (Engraved title trimmed to plate mark and mounted, some leaves reinforced in outer margin, several maps with restored tears mainly at centre folds slightly affecting the image, occasional slight stain in outer margin, slightly browned.) Contemporary sheep (worn, hinges split); sold not subject to return.
First edition in French of the first part of Mercators important atlas. This copy includes the following maps: the World, Europe (2), Africa, Asia, the Americas, North Pole, Iceland, British Isles, Ireland (5), Scotland (3), England (8 including the map of Wales), Norway and Sweden, Denmark (4), Prussia, Livonia, Russia, Lithuania, Transylvania, Black Sea, Spain, Portugal, Biscaia, Castilia, Andalusia and Valencia.
