Lot Essay

Dominating the middle ground of the present view is the heavy cast-iron bridge to the former Holborn Viaduct Station which was erected in 1866 and demolished in 1990.

Collins was a painter of landscapes, figures and architectural subjects who specialised in painting cathedrals both in England and abroad. He studied at Lambeth School of Art 1884-5, and Acadmie Julian, 1886-7 and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1890. The publications he illustrated include Cathedral Cities of England, 1905.
