Lot Essay

Edward Seago was born in Norfolk where he spent most of his working life. A popular painter of landscapes, he received some instruction from Bertram Priestman, R.A. (1868-1951) but was largely self-taught. He travelled and exhibited widely, showing at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and galleries worldwide.

Strand on the Green is the riverside path in Chiswick that stretches eastwards from Kew Bridge and includes some particularly attractive eighteenth century houses.

A similar composition by the same artist is illustrated facing the title page in R. Ranson, Edward Seago, London, 1987.
