Lot Essay
Both this and lot 28 were given to the sculptor, István Beöthy by Kertész in Paris in the 1920s. Beöthy was a fellow Hungarian expatriate artist and friend of the photographer's. He exhibited at Jean Slivinsky's gallery Sacre du Printemps shortly after Kerteész in 1927. It was in the sculptor's atelier that Kertész photographed Magda Forster, another Hungarian colleague, lying on a couch and mocking Beöthy's sculptures in one of Kertész's most recognizable images, Satiric Dancer.
