Comprised of 2 volumes containing altogether 100 albumen photographs printed by Alexander Gardner from negatives by Alexander (16) and James Gardner (10), Timothy O'Sullivan (45), David Knox (4), John Reekie (7), William R. Pywell (3), D.B. Woodbury (1), W. Morris Smith (1), Barnard & Gibson (8) and Wood & Gibson (5). Each approximately 6¾ x 8¾in. Mounted one-to-a-page with photographer's, printer's and publisher's credit, title, series title, date and copyright on the two-toned mount. Including lithographed title-pages, introduction in Volume 1, contents leaf in both vols., and descriptive text page accompanying each plate. Oblong folio, rebound in 3/4 red morocco gilt with impressed lettering. (2)
