Lot Essay
Brigadier-General Harry Denison Tuson, [C.M.G.], was born in 1866, the son of Captain (later General Sir) Henry Tuson, R.M.A., and was commissioned into the Border Regiment from the R.M.C. Sandhurst. Attached to the Egyptian Army between 1892-94, he first saw action in the Boer War, being present at Colenso, Spion Kop, Vaal Krantz, Pieter's Hill and Colesberg. Once more posted overseas between 1907-10, when he acted as Adjutant-General and Quarter-Master General to the New Zealand Defence Force, Tuson served with distinction as C.O. of the 2nd Battalion, D.C.L.I. between 1914-16 and was twice Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazettes 7.8.1915 and 1.1.1916 refer), in addition to being created a C.M.G. (London Gazette 14.1.1916 refers). The General died in June 1958.
