Captain Horace Sylvester Grimston was born on 27.10.1891 at Newera Eliya, Ceylon and educated at St. Edward's School in Newera Eliya, Clifton College and Sandhurst. Commissioned into the 2nd Battalion, Wiltshire Regiment as 2nd Lieutenant in April 1911, he became Lieutenant in March 1914 and received a battlefield promotion to Captain in October 1914. Tragically, Grimston was shot through the temple in the trenches at Reutel, near Ypres, on 23.10.1914. He is buried in the Battes New British Cemetery, Polygon Wood, Zonnebeke.
