Wing Commander Cedric Barnes Hughes was born in September 1907 and commissioned as a Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force in July 1928. Advanced to Flying Officer in January 1930 and to Flight Lieutenant in February 1934, he served in India for several years in the 1930s, his appointments including No. 28 (Army Co-operation) Squadron at Ambala, No. 39 (Bomber) Squadron at Risalpur and No. 60 (Bomber) Squadron at Kohat, with whom he was advanced to Squadron Leader (Commanding) in April 1938. Hughes served in the U.K. in the 1939-45 War and retired with the rank of Wing Commander in July 1945.
