TWO CONTEMPORARY NAVAJO PICTORIAL RUGS
The first a "Yei" rug, finely woven in various shades of brown, black grey and cream against a light brown ground, decorated with six yei figures with upraised arms, wearing kilts with sashes and holding bows and arrows enclosed on three sides by "Rainbow Guardian", serrated band border at top and bottom, Julia Peshlakai; the second, "sand painting" rug, finely woven in white, blue, yellow, black and varying shades of brown against a grey ground, probably representing the Whirling Logs sand painting from the Nightway Chant, composed of a pair of "Talking God" figures and a pair of "Humpback God" figures, enclosing whirling log motif composed of cornstalks supporting "Yei "figures
