[MADISON, James]. MADISON, Dolley, First Lady. Autograph note signed ("DPM") to Eliza Lee, n.p., 28 June 1836. 1 page, 8vo. [With:] MADISON, James, President, a sizeable lock of hair. ON THE DAY OF JAMES MADISON'S DEATH, HIS WIDOW SENDS A LOCK OF HIS HAIR. The sheet in which the lock was wrapped is neatly inscribed by Dolley: "For Eliza Lee from D.P.M. James Madison's hair, June 28th 1836." Madison spent his final years at Montpelier, his estate in Virginia; he died in the early hours of 28 June, 1836.
