A ROMAN TERRACOTTA "CAMPANA" RELIEF
circa early 1st century a.d.
The plaque molded with Herakles and the Cretan bull to the right, the muscular hero depicted nude, his lion skin hanging below, the bull raised up to his shoulders, a draped woman behind him with a shepherd's staff over her left shoulder with a trussed rabbit hanging off one end, two fowl hanging from the other end, a boar in her right hand, a band of palmettes below, a band of medusa heads alternating with palmettes above
