A ROMAN GLASS RELIEF PLAQUE AND A ROMAN GLASS RELIEF MEDALLION
circa 1st century a.d.
The plaque originally rectangular in form, cast of cobalt blue streaked with opaque white, with a mask of a maenad, wearing a wreath of ivy leaves and berries in her wavy, center-parted hair; the medallion oval in form, of translucent light brown, cast with a high relief draped bust of Serapis wearing a modius, his head turned slightly to the right, framed by a fillet in low relief, a flange of glass protruding from the center of the back
