cover R. Hume: Comic envelope number 2 "Balloon Mail", an unrecorded variety of State 1 "Every bullet has his Billet" (not "its Billet") and different skeletal figures on the front), used to Manchester, the address panel showing superb strikes of black "CASTLE/STREET", red handstruck "1" and "Paid At Edinburgh" c.d.s. of 22 May 1840; extremely rare and very attractive. This example (unlisted by Bodily, Jarvis and Hahn) is the finest and earliest known usage of the six "Balloon Mail" caricatures known. Photo
