cover 1840 1d. plate V, SA, good to enormous margins with good portion of adjoining stamp at top, on entire dated 23 February 1841 to Settle, tied by very fine strike of the blue Maltese Cross of Hawes, and showing light strike of the black "West Burton/Penny Post" alongside, the reverse with very fine strike of the small "HAWES" circular undated in the same colour as the Cross; the reverse of the entire with slight staining but in no way detracting from this extremely rare and visually appealing item. The Hawes Cross is considerably rarer than that of Truro and is probably the finest known from this office. Photo
