A VERY FINE AND RARE EARLY MING CLOISONNE ENAMEL BOWL
YONGLE

The bowl is cast with a short ring foot, full rounded sides rising to an everted rim and an overhanging circular flange inlaid with a classic scroll against a deep blue ground below the mouth rim, exquisitely enamelled on the interior with a central floral medallion surrounded by multi-hued scrolling lotus and a smaller floral meander below the rim, the floral bands repeated on the exterior

Lot Essay

An identical bowl in the Pierre Uldry Collection, is illustrated by Brinker and Lutz, Chinese Cloisonne, pl. 21, together with another bowl of similar size and shape but with single-coloured lotus, pl. 20.

Compare also the lotus petal medallion on the interior with a similar arrangement on an underglaze-blue decorated Xuande-marked dish, illustrated in Catalogue of the Special Exhibition of Selected Husan-te Imperial Porcelains of the Ming Dynasty, no. 184.
