An 18th-Century Augsburg-pattern brass octagonal compass sundial,
signed on the underside of the compass box L.T.M. (Ludwig Theodatus Mller), also engraved with Eleva Poli Corfu 39 Lion, Ofen 47 Riga, the hour ring engraved with Roman numerals, with spring loaded gnomon, folding latitude arm with Arabic numerals, engraved and polished horizontal plate, the compass with blued-iron needle and engraved silvered dial, in a leather-covered card case (dilapidated) with brass hook and eye -- 2in. (6.4cm.) wide; with a printed sheet of instructions bearing the title Gebrauch diefes Univerfal-Compaffes and signed Ludovicus Theodatus Mler, Compafs-Macher und Mechanicus in Augfpurg, the reverse with a table of latitudes for one hundred and twenty continental towns and cities
