Richly painted with vignettes of birds perched on the branches of a tree within elaborate camaeu bleu rocaille cartouches flanked with narrow panels of Rococo architectural elements, the rim with gilt-dentil edge above a blue line and gilt dash band, the conforming pierced stand similarly decorated

Lot Essay

The blue enamel decoration of the present vase is of exceptional virtuosity and serves to frame the landscape decoration in a manner similar to that found on contemporary engravings. Cf. lots 45 and 64 in this sale for illustrations of such engraved sources.
