Lot Essay

Although the vase 'Pompadour' was made in four sizes after a design by Jean-Claude Duplessis pre, only the two smaller sizes were made without a pierced shoulder for potpourri.

Cf. Rosalind Savill, The Wallace Collection, Catalogue of Svres Porcelain, London, 1988, vol. I, pp. 127-135 for a detailed discussion of the model and known variations in its design.
