Amontillados Reliquia Barbadillo
This amontillado comes from the cellars of Pedro Rodriquez e Hijos, now owned by Barbadillo. This was a blend of a very old amontillado called "Soberana" that was aged in the "del Toro" cellar, and the "Hindemburg" amontillado. The "Hindemburg" amontillado came from the cellars of the Earl of Aldama who had bought all the old solera Sherries in the area in the hope of selling them on for a profit, but as he could not find a market for this wine he ended up bankrupt.
Don Antonio Barbadillo Ambossy exchanged ten Manzanilla butts for every butt of Aldama's solera-aged Sherry. To this day this wine retains the very finest characteristics of prolonged ageing. This impressive amontillado has a brilliant and golden colour. Pungent, complex, dry and elegant with hints of bitter almonds and slightly salty aroma.
